VETERANS DAY RECOGNITION – THE DAN MOODY MUSEUM
September 10, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
FreeEvent Navigation
Gov. Dan Moody, who grew up in the house that is now our museum, tried to enlist in WWI but was turned away by the Army because he was the only son of a widowed mother. He enlisted in the Texas National Guard and served there during WWI. For that reason this particular commemoration is very appropriate for our museum.
Once again this year the Moody Museum will be honoring local veterans on the Sunday before Veterans Day. Local veterans and/or their families are invited to bring to the museum shadowboxes that tell the story of their military service. For those who do not already have a shadowbox the museum has boxes available for loan. They can be obtained at the museum during regular hours Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 2-5 p.m.
The program will get underway at 3 p.m. with a flag raising ceremony, followed by the National Anthem. The guest speak, Scott Dean, is the new commander of the local American Legion Post. “This seems like an appropriate choice for the Moody Museum because Gov. Dan Moody was the first commander of the local American Legion post,” Susan Komandosky, chair of the museum advisory board, said.
Following the talk guests will be invited inside to view the shadowboxes and other displays and enjoy refreshments.
