Prior to WWI\, Castle and his wife Irene were a well-known husband and wife ballroom dance team who appeared on Broadway and in silent films. Castle was killed in a flying accident on February 15\, 1918 at Benbook Field\, southwest of Fort Worth when he crashed on landing in an attempt to avoid another plane taking off. Castle had gone up with one of his cadets\, an American\, who was on his final check flight before soloing. Castle was the only casualty. \nThe ceremony will include a wreath-laying in the Royal Flying Corps Cemetery section of the Greenwood Memorial Park. Interested participants can meet at Greenwood Memorial Park at 8:00am on February 15th (when the cemetery opens) and assemble at the RFC Cemetery. A customary toast will be offered in remembrance of Castle as part of the ceremony. \nOrganized by the Friends of the Royal Flying Corps Cemetery and the Fort Worth Aviation Museum. \n URL:https://www.texasworldwar1centennial.org/calander/remembrance-ceremony-captain-vernon-castle/ LOCATION:3100 White Settlement Road\, Forth Worth\, TX\, 76107\, United States ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.texasworldwar1centennial.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Vernon-Castle-Plane-1918.jpg END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
