FREEEvent Navigation
Dr. Paul Spellman, a twenty-year Professor of History at Wharton College, will present Until I Come Home on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Friench Simpson Memorial Library in Hallettsville, Texas. The program will begin at 1:00 pm and is free of charge.
Until I Come Home is the story of Roscoe and Vera Diamond Chittim, newlyweds who were separated by World War I for two years after Roscoe was drafted into the United States Army. Connected by letters sent to one another from France to Dallas, these long and often passionate love letters paint an intimate and revealing narrative of the world and culture of the early 1900s.
Spellman received his PhD from the University of Houston along with degrees from A&M Corpus Christi and UT Austin. He was inducted into the Western Writers of America in 2009 and was the Piper Professor for WCJC in 2014.
He is the author of eight books on Texas history, two of which were awarded the Will Rogers Distinguished Book Award.
This World War I program is free and open to the public. For more information contact the library at (361) 798-3243 ext. 208.
